Practising
Practising is inner development. It is important to establish a practical and comprehensive way of practising. The key to a successfull practising is the ability to observe and research, understand and apply the techniques and concepts one wants to learn and master. It is not always to practise more, but to practise more effectively and wisely. One of the best ways to think is to know that one learns an art, that it will take time to learn and that one will make mistakes regularly, which give you the opportunity to practise and learn.
Practise consistently and persistently. Progress does not just come. Aquiring new skills requires right thinking, consistent awareness and persistence in practising. Without discipline you will not reach the desired goals.
At first it is important to practise with a goal in mind. It will focus your practising. Define your goal and provide everything to get there. Later you can practise with no specific goal in mind. Then you will already have a direction set and practising comes on its own. Practising becomes the intent, content and the goal together. Practising is no longer something you do but becomes who you are.
Enjoy practising. One learns better and maintains practise longer if the activity is enjoyable.
Practise with a clear intent. Intensity follows intent. if you practise with the intent to become an accomplished musician you will practise with higher intensity. Decide what your intent is and practise with the appropriate intent to achieve it.
Practise for self-improvement and then to help others to improve. Practising is always for others too. There is always a line. You learn from what others have done before you. And you will give your knowledge to those who come after you. Only when you have deeply studied and learned are you able to help others to get on with their problems and questions. You can help but we cannot do it for them anymore then they can do it for us. Your achievements depends strictly on your own work and progress.
Practise to make a statement. Decide what could be your contribution. Don`t do what others have already done way better than you. Practise in such a way that your statement is communicated through your art.
Practise for your life. When you get out of your rehearsle space you will have to apply the things you have worked on. Take your practising seriously with the right intent and intensity for the "real-life-situation" you are going to be in as a performing artist. There will be competition. Competition is important to find out where you are and to classify your abillities. What you learn for your art will help you in life. Many things you will learn have a much wider impact than just on your art.
Practising means working on many different things. Technique, Body Movement, Listening, Language and Vocabulary, Awareness and Intuition, Focus, Training the Mind Energywork. All these things together make your art complete. Always be aware of all these aspects.
Practise slowly and pay attention to all the details. The best way to progress rapidly is to practise slowly and with accuracy. Making big changes is to pay attention to the little things. Don`t push things they will come when you are ready. Patience is the key to all goals that are hard to achieve.
Learn to listen to yourself. You have to be your most critical and involved listener. Try to improve every little detail in your playing. There is never an end. Practise listening to yourself when you are working alone. Practise listening deeply to others when performing. The more you hear the more you can change and contribute.
